Building The Machinery of Magic: Hekate of Sorcery
First things first: there is info at the bottom of this post to join my course on Hekate. I think the article would be of interest to anyone, but I hate reading an article just to find out it’s an ad. I would never do that to you, so heads-up: I want you to join my course. It’s the kind of thing you will love, if you love this kind of thing. Now, on with the post…
I want to talk about the machinery of magic. In her comment on the course, Charli Cohen, mentioned that the course provides an amplifier you can plug into and that “it’s a machine that takes gradual and precise building, which Jason guides you through step by step”.
I use the term machine quite a lot in the course, but not because there is any kind of literal machines or psionic devices involved. I use it because we don’t just call upon Hekate before you, we call upon numerous spirits that take up places around you both. Each of these spirits, including you, has a specific role to play in generating specific results. Rather than just invoking then asking a question or favor, we are invoking then taking our place in a precise design, and acting in congress with the other spirits in a mandala that, functions as a whole like an engine. Using different spirits and working in different ways changes those results.
While I am speaking specifically about the Sorcery of Hekate course, this idea of a mandala palace or spirit court functioning like a magical machine is not new. My teacher Lama Vajrantha once explained the mandala of Dorje Phurba in this way and it gave me a new understanding of how Tantric mandalas work as well as how the magic of other deities function, or at least how they can function if we approach them the right way.
This also means that we should think more mechanistically about our magic. Our level of belief plays no more into making this kind of sorcery work than it does in turning our cars on before we drive them. Rather than interpret success or failure in terms of whether a deity is pleased with us or not, or if we have enough faith or not, we should look at the various parts and functions of our rites and ask ourselves if something should be changed in our sorcerous machinery, or perhaps that we should be applying it differently.
There is more to it of course, and this is where the mystery schools and magical traditions come in with their teachings. Even without an established teaching to work with, if you build good and consistent long term communications – meaningful systems do not arrive in one night, Sorcery of Hekate took 15 years to work out – you can work to uncover and innovate with the spirits and gods.
In Part 3 I will discuss the reasons for secrecy in magic in general, and this course in particular.

HOW THE COURSE WORKS
The course is taught through Bi-Weekly Audio Lessons and Ritual texts, with periodic videos to support the material. This is followed by a recorded Question and Answer session the following week where I answer any questions you submit about that lesson. This question and answer recording is key to making sure that everyone understands the very precise steps we take to build the work in our lives.
There are three main commitments:
1. You MUST do 100 repetitions of IO HEKA IO HO per day. It doesn’t matter if you are at your altar, it doesnt matter if you are in the right “headspace”, just do them. Do them in the car for all I care, it is about keeping this particular thread of fate running through your life during the practice. It take less than 5 minutes – if you can brush your teeth you can do the mantra. That said, there is a way to repair mistakes if you miss a few days.
2. You need to make an offering to Hekate on every New Moon during training. This can be a large ceremony, or a very simple offering of Incense and Wine while saying the Mantra just to keep the commitment. There will be other things that are strongly recommended for these days, but this is the commitment.
3. As with all my classes the material is under a vow of Secrecy.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
