Specificity in Sorcery
We all know never to ask the Genie to “make me a ham sandwich”, but every so often even experienced sorcerers fall victim to vaguely worded spells and get a result that is technically what we asked for, but quite far from our intent. It has happened to me. It has happened to Rufus Opus. It has happened to pretty much everyone that works practical magic, and it will probably happen to us all again at some point.
I was interested in posting her field report because there are still a lot of Sorcerers out there who are afraid to be too specific. Afraid that they are messing with “fate” or that things are better left up to the powers that be. This has never made any sense to me. Why bother with magic at all? Take responsibility and state what you want. If you need to re-state it or correct it, then do that.
That is exactly what MF did. This is her report:
Field Report: a lesson in being specific. Recently I had to start my business all over from the ground up (I’ll spare you the details, I’ve written about them before) Since I have to work another job to pay the bills while doing this, I decided to ask for some help. I asked for X number of clients and X number of staff. Within a few days, I get flooded with referrals from people who have a public insurance that doesn’t pay for my services (but who are in desperate need… I want to help, but I can’t afford to work for free or it will be me in desperate need soon). So I start working with government agencies to try to resolve the issue of not covering the services (and have made some headway, but there is a long way to go.) The quality of staff applications was poor at best.
So I went back and tried again with Jupiter and Juno and Mercury. I specified that I needed clients who could fund the services, help with the government funding for those who currently could not fund the services, and well qualified, committed staff. That was Sunday.
Today I have former clients that were part of the purchase of the business I sold contacting me asking if I can take them back, I have staff that I had trained and had also transferred to the agency that bought my former business asking if I have any hours for them saying they would rather work for me (aww!), I had a major (nationally known) hospital contact me in regard to client needing service AND bringing me in to train with them (an outstanding opportunity), one of those first potential client who was probably the most in need called again and after talking awhile, I made a few calls and found out that I have a friend who may be in a position to help them get funding …. yes, yes, details…being specific in requests is incredibly important…hopefully all of this is going to allow me to help those other first people who called me.
