How old are you? 25? 30? 35? I want you to take a minute and think about how long your life has been up to this point. Now realize that you might have that long ahead of you AFTER you are 65 or 70.

I turned 45 today so age is on my mind. While I am feeling pretty damn spry, I am not planning on keeping up this pace when I am 80. Or at least, I don’t want to HAVE to keep up this pace when I am 85. Chances are I won’t know how to even use the internet brain implants or whatever-the-fuck-we-use in 40 years.

Did you know that this is National Save For Retirement Week? Yeah, I didn’t know either.  I only found out because Monday was filing day for those of us who filed for tax extensions, in my case so that I could dump money into a SEP. I went on Vanguards website and there was the link.

Hey, self employed people… did you know that if you dump money into a SEP you can take around 1/3 of that off your taxes? You can deposit up to 25% of your income or $54,000 whichever limit you hit first.
There are all sorts of incentives to put that money away. Any amount that you can will build.
