A Six-Figure Field Report and a Saint I have never met before.
I got a field report from a student last week that I just have to share. Three points make it special:
1. The interrelation of disciplines in magic: She attributes her work with meditation and energy work as amplifying her ability to use prayer based magic successfully. I completely agree.
2. Modification of results: She received a result that was excellent but decided she needed to modify it according to her needs. This is important because many people feel that when you ask a spirit or power for something you are somehow bound to accept what they supply or it will offend them. The reality is that you should never accept a result just because a spirit provides it. You should be respectful and thankful, but that doesn’t mean you let a spirit run your life.
3. High Level Salary: There are some quarters of the pagan and occult world that still see money and magic as anathema. Magic may get you money, say these folks, but just what you need, you can never use magic to get rich or be affluent. I say bullshit and so did this student. So should you.
BONUS: Before this, I have never heard of St. Cajetan. Now I have, and more importantly now you have too.
THE FIELD REPORT:
A tiny amount of background: I’ve been working from home, and I have three small children. I’ve been increasingly dissatisfied with staying home, to the point of considering psychiatric drugs. I’m just not cut out for this life, though I love my kids dearly. I had initially set my goal for this course as finishing my novel, but I decided instead to focus on getting a job outside the home.
I was especially moved by the lesson on prayer, which I often overlook (even though I’m a practicing Catholic) as a viable means of getting results. I decided to try a novena to St. Cajetan, the patron saint of job seekers. I feel like my ability to pray effectively has been enhanced by meditation, and ESPECIALLY by the centering, pillar, and spheres exercises. When I do them, I feel like I’m more in touch with my Will.
Day 1: Prayed the novena. Wanted to take concrete action, so I emailed a previous employer. He emailed me back the same day: “When can you start?” This is after four years out of the “mainstream” workforce, with all my certifications and clearances from my previous job long lapsed.
Day 2: Prayed the novena. Decided to look at child care options in case it worked out. Called my favorite babysitter to see if she might want to nanny for us. She said, “Did you see my Facebook post?” I had no idea what she was talking about. Literally 2 minutes before my call, she had posted that she wanted a part-time nannying job.
Day 3: Prayed the novena. My husband had been very opposed to me working outside the home. Spontaneously, he came up to me, hugged me, and said my happiness was paramount and we’d figure it all out. I had also been nervous about telling a friend who’s a stay-at-home mom. I was worried that she’d think I was deserting the children. I ran into her and told her I was considering going back to work. She hugged me and said, “Thank God! It’s about time. Watching you try to do this has been heartbreaking.”
Day 4: Prayed the novena. I’m meeting with my former boss at 11. Instead of feeling nervous, I’m happy and optimistic. I have this deep down certainty that God (or the Universe or whatever you want to call It) is hearing my prayers and lining up everything I need to be successful.
I started this process thinking I’d get a part-time offer, but on the drive down, I was increasingly sure it was going to be something more. I kept thinking, “He’s going to make me an offer I can’t refuse.” Corny, right?
Yeah. Corny, but accurate.
After four years out of the work force, during which all relevant certifications lapsed, my former boss offered me a position managing a new contract for a huge organization. Then he said he’d work with me on my hours–flex hours, work from home when possible, whatever it takes to get me on board, and that he’s looking at six figures salary-wise. (I’ll get the offer later in the week.)
An offer I can’t refuse.

Day 5 of the Novena: On the evening of Day 4, my husband informed me that he wasn’t comfortable with me working full-time. I was positive that working part-time would be a non-starter since this job is a management position, but I sucked it up and emailed my former boss to let him know. I prayed the Novena the morning of Day 5. About an hour later, I received an email offering 32 hours per week–exactly what my husband had suggested–along with the flexible hours he’d previously promised. I submitted my security paperwork and application today, and am looking for the offer by the end of the week.
Day 6 of the Novena: I just received an email with my compensation offer. Six figures, as promised. 🙂
I seriously cannot thank you enough.
