Financial Field Report
I received this homework and extra credit report from a student today. In the course I give an assignment of a detailed review and overhaul of your financial situation followed by a Sorcerous Strategy aimed at improvement.
This is some nice work and a good example of the Strategic Sorcery approach.
I’m currently very happy at my job, but it doesn’t have any room for advancement within the position. Also, since it’s a classified position, the pay is firmly set. With this in mind, the overall intention for the work was to secure my financial foundations.
Based on this intention, I went through all my expenditures, and eliminated all services/subscriptions that I wasn’t making good use of. Even those that required an early cancellation fee, I was able to see the cost difference would still be worth it.
I have two forms of debt, an auto loan and student loans. One of the reasons I’m so happy with my job is that it has a student loan forgiveness benefit built in. While doing the financial review, I found out that beginning this year I qualify for a lower repayment option that does not effect the loan forgiveness. So that’s saving money, and I will enchant the paperwork to speed that process along.
For the auto loan, I called up the bank on a Wednesday in the hour of Mercury, and managed to get the interest rate down to the lowest available. I had already, in my mind, decided not to purchase any more media until that loan is paid off. Typing this out, I’ve decided to clarify that intention, make it more reasonable, and then take a magical oath to that effect
My bank allows me to create sub-accounts in my savings, where it will automatically allocate deposits, so I’ve set it up that once the auto loan is paid off, it automatically puts that amount into a car account for 3 months (I may make it six) to pay for unexpected expenses. I also brought a six-pack over to a family member’s house and in return he spent the afternoon teaching me all of the basic car maintenance tasks like changing the oil and air filter, which will save me a good amount over time. I’m also going to treat the car itself, and its title, with Money Stay With Me products.
At work, we had a different member of the staff take over the head boss position who was not on particularly good terms with me. I did Boss Fix work like crazy both on her and my immediate supervisor. Things have gotten much better between us, and I just received the best employee review of my life. Since everyone, it seems, is experiencing the financial constriction, I’ve plans to begin doing financial workings on behalf of the department.
The last point in the strategic plan is finding a place with a shorter commute to work. Any gas savings will probably be met by increased rents, but I and my partner live over a bridge from our respective work places. This means every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, there’s 30+ minutes of traffic as people get on the highway, just past the bridge. Saving that time would be a huge quality of life increase for us. So far, beyond mundane means, I’ve been focus
In addition to all of that personal work, as a result of other enchantments, my partner just received a rather large promotion, which has made her much happier staying in the area, as well as creating more slack in her own budget (we have overlapping finances, sharing the car loan and living expenses).
I hope that has combined enough of the principles of Strategic Sorcery.
