Hekate and the Ultimate Result.

The “Heka” in Hekate refers to “going beyond”. This is what I tell students the Sorcery of Hekate is meant to help them do: go beyond where they are in life, and who they are as a being.

Students sometimes ask what “Final Result” of the Sorcery of Hekate is supposed to be. Buddhism has Enlightenment. Gnosticism has Gnosis. Hermeticism has its “Great Work”. Other systems provide a path to becoming an Ipsissimus or other final stage of initiation.  If Hekate is helping us “go beyond”, these students want to know what that final stage of “going beyond” looks like. What is the goal? The final result?

I wanted to know the same thing. I was shocked at the answer she gave me:

“I am not at my final stage, why do you think you should be?”

This is a hard thing for some people to wrap their minds around: that there is no perfection that is already defined for them. No final destination that they can have absolute confidence in. No stage of initiation they can claim and know that nothing beyond this is possible.

Instead, Hekate suggests that it’s the movement that’s important. Go beyond where you are and who you are. You know what it is you lack and what you desire and the kind of person you would like to be. That is enough to guide you in a process of “going beyond”.

Perhaps Anthony Bourdain said it best: “Maybe that is enlightenment enough: to know that there is no final resting place of the mind; no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom is realizing how small I am, unwise, and how far I have yet to go”.

If you want some powerful tools to help you keep going beyond:
